When the world matches how I feel
When the world matches how I feel
by third year Audrey Hamm
I love when the world matches how I feel.
Sunshine peeking out from behind the clouds
on a day when I’m doing my best to find joy.
Early spring afternoons of fresh grass and flowers
on a day where I feel brand new.
A striking and illuminous rainbow across the blue sky
on a day when I’m feeling like I’m in the right place.
A chilly fall morning of pretty leaves and cinnamon coffee
on a day when I am reminiscent of home.
And like palm trees, popping up right as you cross the Florida border,
after I’ve taken a leap of faith. All of the gleaming, golden affirmations
start to magically and wondrously appear…
Being this age feels like constantly questioning if you got it right
and begging for angel numbers to give you a sign.
We search for a reason, one that is philosophical, one that is divine,
searching our imaginations for answers in fleeting flashes of free time.
I think I’ll still look to the flower beds,
still look to the sky. Still listen for birds in the morning,
still listen for winter’s stillness. Still ride with
the waves, still dance in the rain. Still set my eyes
on gleaming, golden affirmations, the other
palm trees.
So when the wind whispers back
or the clouds watch me, too
I’ll know I’m not alone.
