look

by third year Jordyn Faucette

When you look into a river

That sits in a cradle a

Hundred miles away

There is no reflection

Of your face

Of your heart

Of your mind

When you look into a river

That sits in a cradle a

Hundred miles away

Nothing remands to distract

And all you may do is look

Look at the lines in the sediment

and remember,

if you are afraid of aging and changing

Take comfort,

For she has survived it for a millenia

Look at the bends in the water

and remember,

if you are afraid of uncertainty

Take comfort,

For she has conquered it for a millenia

Look at the perches of earth

and remember,

If you are afraid of solitude and independence

Take comfort,

For she has carved into herself

So that we may sit and look,
