Ode to the Moon

third year hannah george

Oh moon,

Who illuminates the night and the good within me

Whose ivory light floods my earthy irises

And makes me feel as though, suddenly,

I am part of a loving universe

One where humans are insignificant

And I remember I am just one person

Just one of many descendants of my ancestors

Descendants of the ocean and the mountains

That hold the history of this planet

This earth that is so far from the moon

Yet close enough to exchange an extensive

Good morning and goodnight

Oh moon,

I look upon you each night

And feel full when I can see you in broad day

As I admire the fire in the sky at sunset

I wait for your regality to tie the long hours together

No matter how humid or how warm

Your light alone suggests a cool breeze

And I feel the universe cordially invite me back inside.

Oh moon,

You are closer to Earth than I feel I am most days

I wish to create harmony amongst those I love

The way you encourage the tide to roll in stronger

For the waves to rise higher

And how you give the sun the official go-ahead each dawn,

I wish to be as in control of my reality

As you are in control of the most important things in my life.
