Ache

second year anna van eekeren

The Moon yearns in destined passion,

While Venus burns in tangent fashion.

Deities swirl in endless blue,

Yet all the stars and gods would envy you.

You’re beautiful like the rain on a midsummer’s day,

Glittering, gleaming amongst the afternoon haze.

Smiling coyly with those evasive smirks,

Mercilessly, until my heart bursts.

Dark hair blowing in the night wind,

Shimmering emerald depths playing innocent.

Summer brushes and lingering touches.

The rush of your lips, the warmth of your kiss

 – bleeding moments I can’t resist.

Flitting, graceful, enchanting as a swan,

Strong, confident, and fierce underarms.

Dazzling, captivating to those around,

You steal my essence, my soul with just one sound.

And yet, the heavens taunt in twisted fate,

Rolling, bellowing in deceitful states.

It’s an endless game,

A hopeless dance,

A relentless chase,

I’m forever behind, cemented in place.

Your desire’s elsewhere,

Your affection isn’t mine,

Those gentle laughs and forgotten paths,

Are moments lost to time.

I see you now,

In whispering dreams and fading memories,

In stolen chances and fleeting glances.

 –

Stained in wasted white,

Eyes so hopeful, so daring, so bright,

But it’s not my love that’s your light,

And I plummet into eternal night.

Shattered,

Discarded,

Cast aside,

Left with an aching hunger,

For when we were younger.
